We will launch the season with a major symphony by Dvorak, who made his reputation by adding his own Eastern European flair to the classical canon of Western Europe. We'll also perform works by other composers with eastern cultural roots -- Kodaly, Ranjbaran, and Ince -- along with interesting impressions of the east by great European composers, such as Beethoven, Mozart, and Rossini. We are so excited to bring another season of professional quality music performances to the greater Oak Ridge community. Now in our 65th season, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association continues its commitment to enhancing the community's cultural life while connecting with the world beyond. The most important connection, however, is with you!
I'm Dan Allcott, and I am preparing for my second season as music director and conductor of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. The theme for the 2010-2011 season is East-West Connections. We'll be presenting great music spanning hundreds of years and thousands of miles. With guest artists traveling from as far away as Afghanistan and California, we'll make east-west connections, joining a long tradition of infusing the classical genre with outside influences.
