Richard Ward is president of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association Board of Directors for his third one-year term. He has been on the Board since 2007 and previously served as president for the 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 concert seasons. Richard enjoys music. He sings bass in the Oak Ridge Chorus. He plays the trumpet and the organ for various worship services at First Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge. He is a member of the Battle Brass, a brass quintet that has played at ORCMA fundraising events, such as the Mad Hatter Party.
Richard is a physicist and computer modeler in the Computational Science and Engineering Division of the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He also works for a group with the Spallation Neutron Source, the world's leading accelerator-based neutron scattering facility for characterizing physical and biological materials. He initiated the annual Jackson B. Davidson Memorial Lecture in Science and Religion seven years ago at First Presbyterian Church.
Richard is married to Susan Sharp, a long-time church soloist who is currently a soprano in the Oak Ridge Chorus. Susan is known for her ability to work with and organize others in the preparation of fantastic dinners for a large crowd. She and Richard have two grown daughters, Martina Ward of Oak Ridge and Jessica Ward Waymouth. Jessica and her husband Rob Waymouth live in Alexandria, Virginia.
