    Sat., Apr. 14, 8 p.m.Beethoven Looks East

    • "Overture" and "Turkish March" (from the opera Abduction from the Seraglio) by Mozart
    • Domes by Ince
    • Triple Concerto by Beethoven

    W. A. Mozart's opera Abduction from the Seraglio reflected the Viennese fascination with, and shallow caricature of, Turkish culture and music of the military bands in service of the Ottoman empire. Balancing the music of this opera's "Overture" and "Turkish March" is a more contemporary synthesis of the East-West connection through a strings work called Domes by Tennessee resident and Turkish-American composer Kamran Ince. Formally called the Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C Major, Op. 56, Ludwig van Beethoven's Triple Concerto reflects a Polish influence in its third movement as Beethoven (1770-1827) looks east.

The ORSO performance will feature the Felici Piano Trio (piano, violin, cello). The trio members are natives of Belgium, Germany, and the United States. They will perform a chamber concert on Sunday, Apr. 15, at 3 p.m. at Pollard Auditorium.
