    OAK RIDGE SUMMER CONSERVATORY (ORSC)

    August 6-11, 2012, at the Historic Grove Theater, High Places Community Church, 123 Randolph Rd., Oak Ridge, TN

    One-week program for string players and pianists

    INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAMS

    Advanced Chamber Music for high intermediate to advanced string players.


    Qualifications: Students must be high school or advanced middle school musicians. ¿New students to the Chamber Music Program must submit a 3-5 minute mp3 or youtube video of their playing along with their registration e-mail. (Current students in the ORYSO Advanced Symphony and past students in the ORSC advanced string program do not need to send a recording with their registration.)

    Chamber Music Ensembles / Music Classes Honors Recital
    Program times: 3-8 p.m. daily
    Tuition: $160*


    Junior Orchestra for intermediate string players.

    Qualifications: Students must be able to shift and have at least two years of orchestra experience. Ages 7-14.

      String Orchestra / Individual Lesson
      Master classes / Music Classes / Honors Recital
      Program times: 10 a.m. - 2pm daily (7pm Events)
     Tuition: $120*


    The Piano Institute offers talented pre-college pianists (ages 12-18) the opportunity to work intensively on their solo and chamber music repertoire.

    ¿Admission into the Piano Institute is determined by the ORSC faculty based on a prepared recording (mp3 or youtube video). Piano Institute students must submit an audition recording of their own, unedited playing of one Piano Sonata or Sonatina, and a contrasting piece. Students must have at least two pieces memorized and a performance ready for the Summer Conservatory week.

    HOW TO REGISTER


        1.    E-mail rachel2006@comcast.net and please include your name, age, instrument, number of years of study on that instrument, and the program for which you are registering. Pianists and Advanced Chamber Music musicians may submit their recordings as attachments or links on the e-mail.
        2.    You will be contacted within five days of our receiving your registration e-mail. If you are not contacted, please call to confirm that we received your email. Upon acceptance, you will receive an information packet via email.
        3.    Full tuition is due on the first day of the Conservatory.*

    *Financial assistance is available to students with demonstrated financial need.

    The spring concert of the Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, Oak Ridge Turnpike at Robertsville Road. The concert will feature "L'Estate" (Summer section of Vivaldi's Four Seasons) by ORYSO and a violin concerto performed by ORYSO and Melody Falconieer, the winner of the ORYSO Annual Concerto Competition.

    Summer Music for Youth

    OAK RIDGE SUMMER CONSERVATORY, AUGUST 6-11, 2012 (tentative dates), GROVE THEATER, HIGH PLACES CHURCH, 123 RANDOLPH RD.

    In 2012 the fourth annual Oak Ridge Summer Conservatory will be held for young musicians (7th to 12th grades) interested in participating in one of three programs: the Advanced Chamber Music program, which includes private lessons, chamber ensembles, string orchestra, classes, solo opportunities, student performances, faculty/guest artist recitals, and master classes; the Junior Orchestra program, which offers private lessons, string orchestra, classes, solo opportunities, student performances, faculty/guest artist recitals, and master classes; and the Piano Institute, which provides daily master classes, technique classes, piano ensemble/chamber music, student performances, and faculty/guest artist recitals. 
     
    The conservatory’s daily Evening Events are presented free to the general public at 7 p.m. in the Grove Theater. These include faculty recitals, guest artist recitals, the Student Showcase concert, the Conservatory Chamber Music concert, the Large Ensembles concert, and a fun event such as movie night. The Oak Ridge Summer Conservatory strives to hire a faculty of excellent musicians but keep tuition for each student as low as possible. Additionally, any student who is in financial need will be offered significantly reduced or free tuition.

    ORYSO Presents Spanish Festival Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011

    The Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra will present a Spanish Festival at its fall concert Sunday at 5 p.m. at Grove Theater Performing Arts Center on Randolph Road.

    ORYSO, conducted by Preston Davis, will perform works from George Bizet’s “Carmen Suites.” ORYSO consists of 25 students in 7th through 12th grades from Oak Ridge and the surrounding area.

    Davis will introduce “Kids with Strings Attached,” a group of students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades who play violin, viola and cello. The group of future ORYSO performers will play several pieces under his direction.

    The cost is $5 per adult and $2 per child. 

    ORYSO is one of the musical organizations under the umbrella of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.

     


     

    The Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra (ORYSO) and the new Kids with Strings Attached group (4th, 5th, and 6th grade students) will perform two concerts during the school year. Preston Davis has been named the new conductor of ORYSO.

    The first concert for ORYSO'S 2011-2012 season will be held December 4 at the historic Grove Theater in High Places Community Church, 123 Randolph Rd., in Grove Center, across from the swimming pool on Robertsville Road.

    LAST SEASON'S CONCERTS

    The fall concert was held at 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 21, at the historic Grove Theater.   Slade Trammell was the conductor of ORYSO and Preston Davis was the conductor of the Junior Orchestra.

    Featured music from the movies Star Wars, Star Trek, Apollo 13, E.T., and Mission Impossible.

    The spring concert was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 8 (Mother's Day), at the historic Grove Theater.

    Weekly Practice  Schedule

    All practice sessions will be held on Sunday at the Grove Theater, 123 Randolph Rd., in Oak Ridge. Kids with Strings Attached will begin practice at 1 p.m. every Sunday through Sunday, Dec. 4, the date of the fall concert. Youth Symphony members will begin practicing at 3:15 p.m. every Sunday through Sunday, Dec. 4.

    Summer Music Conservatory
