The Doric String Quartet will perform a special concert on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at 8 p.m. at the Pollard Auditorium on the campus of Oak Ridge Associated Universities in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
The Doric String Quartet has been described by Gramophone magazine as “one of the finest young string quartets,” whose members are “musicians with fascinating things to say.”
The quartet from England has received glowing responses from audiences and critics across the globe. The group has collaborated with a variety of musicians.
Recently, the quartet released its CD of the Schumann String Quartets, which has been chosen “Recording of the Month” in the December 2011 BBC Music magazine. For more information, click here.
According to an article in the Washington Post in November 2010, "The Doric String Quartet keeps genre young and vital. The group projects a sweet, finely blended tone, faultlessly deployed in Haydn's slow movement, where first violinist Alex Redington found subtle colors to embellish a wistful little melody differently each time it returned."
The concert is sponsored by the Cello Leap Studio of Alicia Randisi-Hooker (a member of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra), the Tuesday Morning Musical Club and the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Tuesday Morning Musical Club scholarship fund and ORCMA’s educational outreach.
Tickets cost $25 per adult and $12.50 per student. There is a $2 ticket processing fee for selecting and reserving your seat and purchasing your ticket through Vendini by clicking on the BUY TICKETS NOW button.
