    • The free Family Concert for the 2011-2012 season will be performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2011, at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center, 1450 Oak Ridge Turnpike across from the Civic Center. The title of the concert is "It's a String Thing." Dan Allcott, in his second season with the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the ORSO string players and student string players from all around the area in a concert. One of the numbers that will be played by the intergenerational orchestra will be "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," the first song that preschool Suzuki violin students play. The concert will feature works by classical greats Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms and by current composer Stefan Freund. From 4 to 5 p.m. in the Food Court area of the high school, there will be a Music Fest Party with music, crafts, and snacks!

Sponsors for the Family Concert are ORAU, Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club, Lois and Dick Philippone, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.

    • The free Family Concert for the 2010-2011 season was performed at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center. Dan Allcott conducted the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra in performing Promenade for a Penguin by Allcott, excerpts from The Bear and The Hen by Franz Joseph Haydn, and Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev.

You can click on images of different instruments--such as a flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and violin--and hear parts of the music mimicking the sounds of a bird, duck, cat, wolf, and Peter himself.
