ORCMA presents celebrated German-Greek pianist Danae Dörken in "East and West," a remarkable program exploring folk music traditions from around the world. From the melancholy of Polish folk songs to the fiery rhythms of Spanish village squares, from Alpine dance melodies to the mighty chords of Norwegian folklore, experience a musical journey across continents.

"East and West" embodies Dörken's belief that our diversity is what ultimately brings us together and gives us enormous strength. Each work in this program is deeply influenced by folk music traditions from different countries, highlighting the individual elements that make each culture unique while underscoring the necessity for them to be loved and remembered forever.

Chopin's Polonaise in C-sharp minor captures the melancholy of Polish folk tunes, while Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances feature the unusual rhythms of the Transylvanian peasant polka. Schubert's 12 Ländler reflect Alpine folk dance melodies, and de Falla's Danza ritual del fuego evokes guitar performers in Spanish village squares. Grieg's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen draws from the mighty chords of Norwegian folklore, while Kalomiris' compositions are steeped in Greek folk music traditions.
