Cornelia Laemmli Orth - Light And Legacy Nov 8
Oak Ridge Symphony Orchetsra

Cornelia Laemmli Orth is celebrating her 19th season as Music Director of Symphony of the
Mountains. Under her leadership, the orchestra has expanded its programming to include
Summer Outdoor, Family, Young People’s, Pops, Patriotic, and Cross-Over concerts. These
innovative series have helped position Symphony of the Mountains as the first Tennessee
orchestra to tour Europe, alongside the acclaimed Kruger Brothers. Cornelia regularly
collaborates with world-renowned soloists, enriching the orchestra’s performances.
A passionate advocate for contemporary music, Cornelia brings new and dynamic works to the
concert stage. In 2022, she founded “Paths to Dignity,” an outreach initiative that brings live
music to individuals experiencing homelessness, while raising awareness of the challenges faced
by the unhoused community. Her impact extends beyond the concert hall. Cornelia’s concert lectures, school and university
engagements, speeches for civic organizations, and frequent appearances on TV and radio have
made her a key cultural figure in the region. She also collaborates with local arts organizations,
further cementing her place as an integral part of the community. Cornelia’s career spans both coasts of the U.S. and Europe. From 2016 to 2022, she served as
Music Director of the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, NY. She made her debut with Opera
Ithaca in 2019 with several performances of La Bohème, and in 2020, conducted the Kansas
Intercollegiate Orchestra. Cornelia has also guest-conducted the Brevard Philharmonic and
Asheville Lyric Opera, and served as interim Music Director for both the Appalachian
Philharmonic and the Appalachian State University Opera Program. She continues to contribute
to the Hayes School of Music as an advisory board member. Blending the classical-romantic traditions of her European roots with the distinctive American
flavor she’s embraced, Cornelia is a highly sought-after guest conductor, known for her inspiring
leadership and captivating performances across the U.S. and Europe
