Where We Are Today
Our current office space is no longer meeting even the most basic operational needs. Over the past several months, we’ve been dealing with a series of persistent facility failures that directly affect our ability to work safely, reliably, and professionally.
Critical issues include:
-
A leaking roof that has caused repeated water intrusion during routine rain events.
-
No functioning HVAC, leaving the space overheated in the summer and unheated in the winter, with humidity levels that risk damage to equipment, documents, and the workspace itself.
-
No active lease, which means we have no long-term security, no guaranteed access, and no legal clarity on responsibilities for maintenance or repairs.
Despite the severity of these issues, the landlord has stated that repairs—including fixing the roof and restoring HVAC—will only proceed if we sign a new lease at a cost of $1,000 per month.
That requirement puts us in a position where we must choose between significant ongoing financial commitment to an increasingly compromised space, or considering alternative options that better support our work, safety, and long-term sustainability.

Where We Can Go
We have identified a space in the Grove Shopping Center. Grove Shopping Center sits in the heart of Oak Ridge and traces its roots back to the WWII Manhattan Project era, when it served as one of the city’s original purpose-built retail districts. It remains a modest, community-oriented shopping area rather than a large commercial mall, but it carries significant historical character. At its center is the Grove Theater — a 1,000-seat venue from the 1940s that is still active today and serves as one of the performance homes of the Oak Ridge Symphony and Chorus. The area offers both everyday convenience and a direct connection to Oak Ridge’s unique history

Understanding the Layout
The diagram shows three adjacent units: 102, 104, and 106.Spaces
104 and 106 have already been combined into a single, larger suite of approximately 1,800 sq ft. This combined area includes a large open common area, multiple restrooms, and storage rooms. These two units function as one unified space and would serve as the primary area for our operations.
Space 102, connected to 104 by an interior doorway, offers an additional ~750 sq ft. It includes two small offices, a reception-style common area, extra storage, and another restroom. While not essential, it expands the available workspace significantly and provides private rooms that 104/106 do not have.
