Bill Schwenterly
French Horn
Bill Schwenterly has been an avid Horn player since his early teens and enjoys attending all sorts of arts performances. As an undergraduate at Yale he played in the Horn section of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and in his senior year was one of the founding members of the Yale Symphony Orchestra. During graduate studies at Cornell he played in various orchestras for campus arts organizations. He came to Oak Ridge in 1972 to work at ORNL, and joined the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra in the fall of that year. He has played in the ORSO ever since, serving as Principal Horn from 1974 to 2010. He also served several terms as Orchestra President in the 70’s and 80’s. He likes to play chamber music in brass and woodwind quintets and is currently a member of the Tanasi Wind Quintet.
Bill has served several terms on the ORCMA Board of Directors, beginning in 1978. In his current term from 2006 until the present, his main interest has been in organizing the Chamber Concert Series.
Before his retirement at the end of 2011, Bill worked in the Fusion Energy Division at ORNL on cryogenics and superconductivity applications.
