Gary Sperl

Clarinet

Gary Sperl was the Associate Professor of Clarinet at the University of Tennessee for 36 years and was also the Principal Clarinetist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra for 48 seasons. In recent years, he has been teaching at Tumaini University Makumira for two months each year in Usa River, Tanzania. He is also involved with conservation work in Tanzania protecting and replanting Mpingo Trees (the trees clarinets, oboes and other woodwind instruments are made from).
